Alejandro Díaz has been elected president of Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote. The proclamation took place at the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife during the celebration of the first island congress of Nueva Canarias (NC).
Nine months ago, the PNL, a nationalist formation that has been led by Juan Carlos Becerra since 1997, joined NC.Becerra, who is currently a member of the Executive and the National Political Council of NC, has highlighted Díaz's "capacity for work, clarity of ideas, defense of the interests of Lanzarote and his political flexibility, so he meets all the requirements to lead NC in Lanzarote".
Díaz is accompanied on the island's NC political council by people such as Armando Santana, Olimpia Martín, José Antonio Rodríguez and Francisco Guzmán Rodríguez. Juan Carlos Becerra and Pedro de Armas are ex officio members of the body.
NC has three representatives in the public institutions of Lanzarote. The councilor Pedro de Armas, in the opposition in the Arrecife City Council, and the councilors of the government team of the Yaiza consistory, José Antonio Rodríguez, who occupies the area of Urbanism, and Francisco Guzmán Rodríguez, councilor of Social Services, Internal Regime and Local Police.
The island congress of NC has been attended, among others, by the national president, Román Rodríguez; the national deputy for the province of Las Palmas Pedro Quevedo; the former mayor of Telde Francisco Santiago; and the Deputy Minister of the Presidency in the stage of Román Rodríguez at the head of the regional Executive, Rogelio Frade.
In addition, this congress has been attended by Antonio Morales, CC; José Juan Cruz and Marcos Hernández, from the PSOE, Rita Martín, from the CCN; José Pérez Dorta, from Alternativa Democrática de Haría and Gladys Acuña, mayor of Yaiza for the PIL, as guests from other political formations.
