The Teguise City Council has allocated nearly "350,000 euros" to transport aid for students of non-compulsory education residing in the municipality for the 2023 and 2024 school year.
As the Councilor for Education, Mar Boronat, points out, "in total, 698 students residing in the municipality who are studying baccalaureate, training cycles and university both inside and outside the island" have benefited from these financial aid, which will be paid shortly.
These financial aid are intended to "cover the costs of travel by air, sea or land transport (bus, metro, tram and taxi) to those students enrolled in the 2023-2024 academic year" and who meet the requirements set out in the rules. The transport aid consists of a single amount for the following modalities, "150 euros for students who study on the island, 500 euros for those who study on other islands and 600 euros for students who study outside the Canary Islands".
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, stresses that "these aids are intended to alleviate, as far as possible, the expense of families who have children in higher education and who often have to leave the island to do so". "Our commitment to education and equal opportunities is firm, so we will spare no effort in increasing these subsidies in the coming years," concludes Duque.
The final resolution with the list of admitted and excluded students has been published on the notice board and on the City Council website.
