The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has hosted a working meeting with the representatives of the three taxi cooperatives on the island (San Marcial, Nortysur, and Ajey Tamia), entities that group the provision of the service in the seven island municipalities and represent nearly 500 professionals in the sector.
The meeting is part of the line of permanent collaboration that the Chamber maintains with the transport sector to advance in the continuous improvement of the working conditions of this group and the quality of service they provide to citizens.
During the session, the cooperatives conveyed their main common concerns, addressing fundamental issues such as the need to reinforce the training of drivers, the updating and adaptation of tariffs, the streamlining of vehicle inspection procedures, or the determined fight against professional intruders.
During the meeting, all parties agreed on the need to optimize the operational functioning of taxis to guarantee an efficient, accessible, and adapted service to the current demands of residents and visitors. In this regard, the effort and investment that the three cooperatives are making in the digitalization process of their fleets and management tools were highlighted, whose positive results are expected to consolidate in the medium term.
With the shared goal of streamlining the response to users, attendees expressed their willingness to work together on a unified proposal document. This text, which will be sent to the competent public administrations, will include island organization strategies to size the supply and effectively reduce waiting times recorded in the different municipalities.
The meeting served to confirm the full alignment between the represented groups and the chamber corporation, sharing a common diagnosis of the challenges and opportunities of a key sector for island mobility. After this first contact, the taxi cooperatives and the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa have agreed to continue developing this joint work agenda in the coming weeks.
In the words of José Valle, “The taxi service is a public service of guarantee, and it is our responsibility to collaborate to reinforce its digitalization and collaborative operation as a guarantee against any new agent that may be established. From the Chamber of Commerce, we will do our part to help you in that process”.
