About 50 immigrants have gathered this Wednesday morning in front of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Lanzarote shouting "We want the truth", "No more deaths in boats" and "We want the corpses". This group has demanded a "serious" investigation to clarify the circumstances that led the boat to capsize, in the early morning of Thursday of last week. In addition, they have also shown the photographs of the seven missing people after the boat accident.
Among those gathered was also the brother of Ali Boulid, the only victim so far of this tragic accident. The lifeless body of this man was found hours after the boat capsized in waters near Costa Teguise. His brother recognized his body on Monday in the Arrecife Courts. He assures that he could only see his face, which was "full of blows".
The brother of the fatal victim of this boat, who lives in Arrecife, says that he is broken with grief. "My brother had no children, but he had family," he says sadly. He only demands "Justice" and also asks that the body not be repatriated "until all" the facts are clarified.
The president of the Moroccan-Spanish Cultural Center, Mares, Rachid Belkhadir, also demands that the detained immigrants not be repatriated until the judicial investigation is over. "We are here because we want to support the families of the missing and the deceased. We want everything to be clarified, because we are in a democratic country and we have no doubt about Justice, but we want the truth," he insists.
"We don't want to blame anyone yet"
The Moroccans gathered in front of the Government Delegation "do not blame anyone", not even the Civil Guard, since the investigation is open. We don't want to blame anyone yet, because the case is in the hands of Justice and we have confidence in Spanish Justice," says Belkhadir.
The president of this center assures that this tragedy is being "very hard" for the families. "Many African families who are having a bad time risk their lives to come here. But the dream ended badly for everyone, for the families who have lost their only child, for the deceased and friends," he laments.
Some relatives of the people who were traveling on the boat live in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. "They know everything that is happening through the news in the media. They didn't know anything and they were called to tell them that their relatives had disappeared," says the president of the Moroccan-Spanish Cultural Center, Mares.
