Around 6:40 a.m. this Monday, an explosion caused the collapse of the roof of an agricultural farm in Campoamor street in Arrecife, in the Argana Alta neighborhood. The explosion has caused the death of the only inhabitant of the farm, Marcelino Santana, 64 years old, a worker of the Arrecife City Council in cleaning tasks, who had been living on the farm for a short time.

Personnel from the Fire Department, Local Police, National Police and two ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service were transferred to the scene. Upon arriving at the area, it was verified that a person had been trapped under the rubble after the collapse of the upper part of the building.

The debris removal work by the firefighters, to try to reach the trapped person, ended around 11:00 in the morning, when they managed to rescue the corpse, already lifeless, of Marcelino Santana, 64 years old, who had severe burns on a large part of his body.

The National Police Corps has taken charge of the proceedings and although from the beginning a possible gas explosion inside the house was pointed out, the investigation continues and other options are being considered. Tedax personnel from the Civil Guard have also been transferred to the site.
