José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero could spend his last vacation as Prime Minister at the La Mareta house in Costa Teguise, according to the newspaper La Provincia published this Wednesday.
This would be the fourth time that the President of the Government of Spain has spent his holidays in Lanzarote, since he took office almost eight years ago. José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was already on the island in 2005, 2006 and 2009, and also before reaching the presidency. In fact, just before the 2004 elections, he spent a few days on the island as a candidate, and promised to return if he won the elections.
Zapatero has made clear on several occasions his predilection for the island to spend his days off and even in 2009 he recorded a promotional video for the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
Zapatero has stayed other times with his wife, Sonsoles Espinosa, and his two daughters, in the royal residence La Mareta, in Costa Teguise. This chalet belonged to Hussein of Jordan, who gave it to the King of Spain, Juan Carlos I.
