Yaiza pays tribute to native sports

The Yaiza City Council wanted to pay tribute to native sports in this year's celebration of Canary Islands Day (May 30) with the production of a one-minute video that exalts the values and traditions of the Islands, where Canarian wrestling, Latin sailing and Canarian bowling and promoting clubs of the municipality of Yaiza are the protagonists, recalling, in the words of the mayor, Óscar Noda, “that the sports of the land are a legacy of an entire culture that institutions have to maintain and promote”.

Yaiza, through the Department of Sports led by Ángel Lago, materializes this "humble and heartfelt gesture with native sports and their practitioners, who have also suffered restrictions during the pandemic, and that as is the case of Canarian wrestling, being a contact discipline, it has taken longer to join the activity".

For Ángel Lago this video means “a recognition of our athletes, men and women, of now and always, who day after day contribute to maintaining our customs and tradition”.

The following participated in the production of the video: the Unión Sur Yaiza wrestling club Joaquín Rodríguez; the four Latin sailing teams of the municipality: Bernasan, Playa Dorada, Tritón Clínica Bari and Playa Blanca; and the Canarian bowling club La Huerta de la Vieja.
