In the warmth of the carols of its Rancho de Pascua, Yaiza was filled with the Christmas spirit on Friday night to welcome Christmas, filling its Nativity scene with light, one of the most visited and with the greatest tradition in Lanzarote.
In a heartwarming act that managed to avoid the intermittent rains that fell during the day on the Island, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, first thanked the Rancho de Pascua for continuing to accompany this inauguration with its carols year after year, highlighting that "it is a joy to fully experience the Christmas festivities again and what better way to do it than by discovering this creative work that keeps intact a tradition that we remember since we were children."
Noda praised the commendable work of Pancho Ortiz, Aridane Cabrera and Orlando Caraballo, municipal workers who this year have been in charge of the design and creation of the Municipal Nativity Scene "because it has been weeks of hard work under the sun but they have managed to reflect that traditional Nativity Scene that is already more than 35 years old", also remembering Tito Viera, precursor of the same and teacher of many of these Nativity scene makers.
With an extension of 180 m2, the work recreates this year the most emblematic places of our municipality, being able to recognize the main towns and unique places such as Salinas de Janubio, Montañas de Fuego with geyser included, Los Ajaches or La Geria. Among the novelties is the Mirador del Charco de los Clicos, with a privileged view to admire and adore the child Jesus.
The parish priest of Yaiza, Jonathan Almeida, blessed the work before the lighting, wishing "that the contemplation of this nativity scene will revive our faith" and asking God that in the municipality "work, harmony and hope abound."
After filling this beautiful work with light, which one year will pleasantly surprise its thousands of visitors, and the traditional walk around the Nativity Scene of the Rancho de Pascual and authorities, neighbors and visitors ended the evening sharing a hot chocolate and Christmas sweets, generosity of the Council.
This Sunday, Christmas Market
