The Councilor for Civil Protection of the Arrecife City Council, Kevin Cortés, spoke this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to thank the wave of solidarity of the people of Lanzarote with those affected by the floods after the passage of DANA in Valencia a week ago.
"I am very proud, very grateful and very blessed to feel conejero by adoption. I knew that the conejera community has always been supportive, has been at the forefront, but I can guarantee that if I continue describing the conejera community I will end up crying because it is impressive how it has turned", highlighted visibly excited the mayor in the morning radio Buenos días, Lanzarote.
The person in charge has referred to the space they enabled in the capital, at the headquarters of Civil Protection, to collect non-perishable food, hygiene products and warm clothes to send to those affected by the floods in the Valencian Community. "We are overwhelmed in every way, I have no adjectives to express my gratitude and my pride in feeling conejero by adoption", Cortés continued.
The mayor added that the people who have come to the warehouse to make donations have ended up staying "giving us a hand. We had the call effect, there came a time last night when we were approximately 45 people", he added.
People of all ages and professions have come to the place who wanted to participate in the aid that the island will send to Valencia. "A tremendous explosion of solidarity", he continued.
The councilor of the Arrecife City Council has assured that they have 40 pallets ready, "laminated, packed, classified", that are prepared to leave and be sent to the Valencian towns. With these pallets already prepared they have reserved a space in the warehouse to receive more donations.
The council has made a call to the neighbors to no longer donate more clothes, but to give priority to cleaning products, paint, drinks for older people with swallowing problems, etc. The population has also taken gluten-free food and medicines to the warehouse, which are separated in a pallet in case they "require some type of inspection." In addition to several pallets with food for animals.
Throughout the day, the council will receive the first container to fill it with the pallets. These actions are coordinated directly with Civil Protection of Valencia.
"A company here in Lanzarote donated a large number of brushes and I do not say the name so as not to advertise, but donated a large number of brushes, brooms," added the mayor. "This is a town that knows how to give and the town that knows how to give has to prepare its hands to receive when it is their turn to receive those blessings from heaven," Cortés concluded.
The donation collection center is open from 9:00 in the morning until 9:00 at night, from Monday to Sunday.
