UGT Lanzarote celebrated the XI edition of the Miguel Barrios Miralles Awards for Union Work this Thursday, May 1, in an emotional event that took place at the El Fondeadero Civic Center in Puerto del Carmen. The ceremony, framed within the commemoration of International Workers' Day, served to pay tribute to those who have shown an exemplary commitment to defending labor rights on the island.

This time, the Collective Award went to the La Santa Club Sport Hotel Works Council, in recognition of their constant effort in protecting the working conditions of their staff. The Individual Award was given to Rosalyn Martínez, personnel delegate of AMAVIR, for her firm involvement in improving the labor quality of her colleagues. In addition, María Candelaria Cabrera received the Special Award for her extensive and long-standing union career.

During the event, UGT representatives highlighted the importance of continuing to strengthen unionism as a pillar of democracy and social justice. In its speech, the organization made a call to mobilization under the slogan "Now more than ever, win the future", underlining 15 priority axes to advance in rights, including the reduction of working hours, gender equality, collective bargaining, occupational health, and decent housing.

The event concluded with a clear vindication of the role of Europe as a space for progress, solidarity, and coexistence, in a context in which—according to the union—it is vital to protect what has been achieved and continue advancing towards a fairer and more equitable social model.
