The Lanzarote surfer Dylan Donegan was received this Wednesday by his family and friends in Lanzarote. Dozens of people gathered at the César Manrique Airport to welcome the young surfing star on his return to the island.
With Spanish and Canary Islands flags in hand, horns and banners, those closest to the surfer were encouraged to give him a warm welcome as a celebration for his recent success in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship held in El Salvador from May 3 to May 12, 2024.
Donegan's family and friends welcomed the athlete with applause, shouting "Champions!", showing photographs of the young man and a banner highlighting the word "Champion". The main floor of Lanzarote Airport was full of fans and surfing companions of the champion who did not want to miss the long-awaited event.
After becoming world champion, the Lanzarote native was very excited about the recognition. "I'm very, very happy," said the surfer. "It feels incredible. Even qualifying for the Spanish team is very, very difficult. I haven't thought about it yet, I guess I'll have to and enjoy the moment and when I realize it, I'll probably go crazy," he said.
