Historical records
Sunday, October 8th resulted in three historical records, those of the highest minimum temperatures at the Gran Canaria airport, Lanzarote and Santa Cruz de Tenerife stations, in the tenth month of the year.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) details that at the Gran Canaria airport the thermometer did not drop below 27.7 degrees, exceeding the 26.6 degrees of the previous record in a month of October in the historical series that dates back to 1951.
At the Lanzarote airport the minimum was 27.6 degrees, four tenths more than the previous mark, recorded in 1983.
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife the minimum this Sunday was 26.1 degrees, one tenth more than in October 1983. In this case, the historical series dates back to 1920.
Aemet emphasizes that from September 29th to October 8th all days have been a warm record for their date, something unprecedented in Spain since at least the 70s of the 20th century in any warm episode.
