The Union of Public Employees of the Canary Islands denounces "the lack of coverage in the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital of the Neurosurgery specialty." The union explains that until a few days ago the unit was made up of neurosurgeons from the Doctor Negrín Hospital who traveled "once a week to consult with patients from Lanzarote".
However, "due to discrepancies in payments during the working day, the doctors have decided not to come to the island anymore, which forces patients of this specialty to travel to Gran Canaria to be treated", SEPCA points out.
"We must take into account that due to the pathological characteristics of each of the patients, not all of them can be transferred. All this means that they remain on the island without being treated by a neurosurgeon specialist," the union points out.
For this reason, SEPCA requests "the General Directorate of Human Resources of the Canary Islands Health Service to urgently provide an immediate solution to this matter and restore the service so that no patient of this specialty is left untreated".
