The old houses on García Escámez street, formerly known as "military houses", have been in a state of progressive abandonment for years, which is reflected in their facades. A situation that has led the Titerroy Neighborhood Association to request in writing to the Arrecife City Council its rehabilitation so that they can be given to families in need.
"Some of the houses are in a quite notorious state of abandonment and others are walled up", says Ismaelo Montero, president of the Titerroy neighborhood association, who also explains that the houses "previously belonged to the Ministry of Defense and now some are privately owned and others belong to the Cabildo".
The decision is now in the hands of the City Council, although the legal obstacles of property rights could mean a severe delay in the procedures. A solidarity idea that is waiting to receive a response.
