In keeping with tradition, the San Ginés Polyphonic Choir association completely changed its usual repertoire for compositions with a Christmas feel, among which there is always something new each year. For these holidays, the management of the San Ginés Polyphonic Choir held four concerts in Arrecife and Playa Honda this Tuesday until finishing at the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Valterra. The 25 choir members, led by Professor José Antonio Elías Roldán, performed some Spanish Renaissance carols collected in different songbooks: 'Dadme Albricias', 'Verbum Caro', 'Riu, Riu, Chiu', 'Adeste Fideles' and 'Viene la Vieja', among others, ending with one entitled 'Christmas Commercial Suite'.
Each of these compositions was followed with attention by the audience and they rewarded each one with their applause. The parish priest, Nicanor Bermúdez, congratulated the choir members and their director for the interpretative quality in each of the works selected for the concert, with very well-matched voices, and thanked them for having chosen the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen during these holidays. The director, on behalf of the choir members, thanked the community for their welcome and the attention paid during the entire concert.
The director maintained the custom of celebrating the Lord's Christmas holiday with the performance of religious carols, which represents the evolution of lyrical poetry throughout history. For this reason, a Christmas carol is currently called a Christmas song, of any kind of extension, meter and rhyme, both in Spanish and in other languages.
The next event scheduled by the San Ginés Polyphonic Choir Association will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 with the traditional "Christmas Circuit", which it will share with other groups on a tour of the center of Arrecife.
