The runway of the Lanzarote Military Airfield hosted this Friday the presentation of the Patrulla Águila in Lanzarote, an aerobatic flight group of the Air Force with 11 pilots and 7 Spanish-made CASA C-101 aircraft, which will fly over the sky of Lanzarote this Sunday in homage to the 600 years of history of Teguise.
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort; the colonel chief of the aerodrome, Pedro Alejandro García Sipols; together with the head of the Patrol, Lieutenant Colonel Rubén Pérez, announced the details of the exhibition of the prestigious aerobatic flight team at the foot of the runway. Since 1985, the Patrulla Águila has flown the skies of Spain, but this Sunday it will do so for the first time from Costa Teguise, although it is its second time in Lanzarote, since in 2002 they made flights in the airport area.
From 12.30 pm on Sunday, October 28, the promenade and the beach of Las Cucharas will become "a meeting point to observe an authentic demonstration of skill, precision and concentration in the air, the result of thousands of hours of flight and a lot of training", they emphasize from the City Council.
The head of the Patrol, -with a military base in San Javier (Murcia)-, expressed "the privilege and honor that it means for him and his team to fly in the Canary Islands, and especially in Lanzarote, and thanked Teguise for the invitation to be part of its centenary". Likewise, Pérez highlighted the inverted looping as one of the most peculiar maneuvers of the exhibition, which, he explained, will last half an hour and will consist of two parts: one in which the 7 planes fly together, and another in which they perform acrobatics separately.
Oswaldo Betancort thanked the Air Force for its involvement, as well as the hoteliers of Costa Teguise "who have collaborated to make this event possible in Lanzarote". "Thanks once again to the public-private partnership, Teguise will be able to experience a unique moment in its history", added Betancort, who expressed "the immense gratitude of the people of Teguise, who have managed to fly very high during this anniversary, and have done so well accompanied and supported by all".
For his part, the colonel chief of the aerodrome, García Sipols, declared that "this is proof of the Air Force's commitment to the defense of the Archipelago and Lanzarote, and a unique opportunity to bring our work closer to the resident population, and also to the tourists who visit the island".
