The Navy of Senegal has rescued 124 irregular migrants who were sailing aboard a pirogue in the open sea, as reported this Friday by the Navy of this West African country.

"This Thursday, October 8, 2026, the National Navy rescued a pirogue carrying 124 irregular migrants, about 37 kilometers off the coast of Djiffère," a town on the Petite Côte of Senegal, the Navy stated in a brief statement published on its social networks.

"The migrants were disembarked at the Admiral Faye Gassama Naval Base (in Dakar) and placed at the disposal of the competent authorities," added the Senegalese Navy, without providing further details on the condition or identity of these people.

Although the authorities did not specify the destination of the vessel, Senegal is a transit and origin country for migrants who arrive irregularly in the Canary Islands.

The migratory route between the African coast and the Spanish islands is considered one of the most dangerous in the world.
