On Monday night, the first four 'murgas' of the eleven participants in the XXX Adult 'Murgas' Contest performed and demonstrated why it is one of the star events of the Arrecife Carnival.
A Fairground where not a soul could fit witnessed the first phase of the contest with the presence of the mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, together with the Councilor for Festivities David Duarte and a large part of the Municipal Corporation.
The first performance was that of Las Vacilonas. One more year, the girls directed by Marta Ruíz, demonstrated their worth with blended voices and vindictive lyrics with the themes 'With my keys opening and closing and always criticizing' and 'From doll to doll'.
Secondly, it was the turn of the afilarmónica Las Revoltosas from San Bartolomé. Their director Lina Martín showed off an experience of more than thirty years in the Carnival with the themes 'The Crusade' and 'Not one more', seasoned with a design by Manuel Camejo, 'French Revolution' to which no detail was missing.
In third place, the Tity Roys dressed as pirates encouraged an audience dedicated to the themes: 'I'm sorry but today I'm the photographer' and 'For tastes, colors, and for criticizing, the songs'. Finally, a 'murga' that premieres in the Carnival although last year they went out to enjoy outside the contest, Las Enraladas, with the themes: 'A whole life' and 'The walls told me what you kept silent'.
The jury in charge of choosing the six finalist 'murgas' that will perform on Friday, February 9 is the following:
The Design, Fantasy and Costumes are judged by: the artistic director from Santa Cruz de la Palma Salvador Casero, the master craftsman Óscar Celso, the designer Ángel Donato, the seamstress María Ángeles González and the makeup artist Elena María Hernández.
Regarding the professionals in Lyrics, Interpretation and Music are the musician Carmelo Ojeda, the lyricist and director of the Carnival Luis Enrique Maya, the Brazilian singer Hannah Paola Bertoni, the technician of the Canarian Carnival Miguel de la Cruz, the former 'murguera' and blogger of the Carnival María Ángeles Lorenzo and the collaborator of Los Simplones Iván Díaz.
This Tuesday the second phase of the XIX Adult 'Murgas' Contest is celebrated with the following order: Tabletúos, Simplones, Desperdigaos and Inadaptadas, while on Wednesday in the third phase Desahuciados, Rebuscadas and Pijoletas will do so, where the six 'murgas' that pass to the final will be known.
