As reported by the Ministry of Health, a total of five dispensing robots (two double and three integrated) will be distributed between the Insular Maternal and Child Hospital of Gran Canaria, the University Hospital of the Canary Islands of Tenerife, the Hospital of La Palma and the General Hospital of Fuerteventura. The award of these robots was granted to the company GPI Iberia Health Solutions SL, for an amount of 1,723,424.98 euros, plus 120,639.75 euros of IGIC.

This is part of one of the five lots awarded through an open procedure and ordinary processing. In addition, it is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) by 85%, within the ERDF Operational Program Canary Islands 2021-2027.

Within the framework of this contract, the Ministry of Health has awarded a total of 8,161,793.37 euros for the supply, installation and maintenance of pharmacy logistics systems necessary to address the third phase of the DragoDOSIS project, consisting of the deployment of automated storage, packaging and distribution equipment, as well as drug dispensing robots in the hospitals of the Canary Islands Health Service.

These lots consist of 13 drug carousels (five horizontal and eight vertical, ambient and/or refrigerated), nine semi-automatic repackagers, five robotic repackagers and 51 dispensing cabinets, together with the conditioning work necessary for the installation and maintenance of the systems for a period of six years.

The equipment of the remaining four lots will be distributed among all nine SCS hospitals, according to the planned needs.

The DragoDOSIS project

DragoDOSIS is one of the three projects underway in the Canary Islands Health Service for the modernization of Hospital Pharmacy Services, through the automation of the logistics and healthcare cycle of medicines, such as DragoFARMA and DragoMED.

The third phase of DragoDOSIS consists of the supply, conditioning, installation and configuration of the equipment, initial loading of the articles, as well as the computer integrations with the corporate and hospital information systems, for the automation of the central pharmacy warehouse processes and the logistics and healthcare life cycle of the medicine.

In 2021, the SCS, dependent on the Ministry of Health, acquired a total of 129 new automatic drug dispensing systems, for an amount of 5,308,409.10 euros, within the same project.
