The Fire Department of the Security and Emergency Consortium of
Lanzarote has managed to collect in a weekend more than 7,000 kilograms of food and personal hygiene products, which this Monday has deposited in dependencies of Cáritas parishes, in the church of San Ginés. Of these 7,000 kilos, 1,400 have been liters of milk, according to a statement.
The firefighters of Lanzarote have indicated that this year they wanted to show their support to "the most needy families on the island, who frequently go to the churches of the neighborhoods of San Ginés, La Vega, Santa Coloma and Altavista in search of food." The firefighters also wanted to show their "enormous gratitude to the entire society of Lanzarote", which collaborated this weekend with this campaign.
The firefighters have pointed out that the population of Lanzarote has responded "in an exemplary and massive way" during these days to this "call for solidarity". "We want to thank them for the effort made that, without a doubt, will contribute and help many families on the island who are having a bad time," they indicated.
They also wanted to thank the collaborating supermarkets, Hiperdino and Spar, and all the managers and employees of these commercial locations, "for the collaboration offered and for having personally contributed with purchases destined for this cause." Similarly, they have shown their gratitude to the rest of the collaborators.
Likewise, Cáritas has also thanked the solidarity work of the Lanzarote Fire Department, who have participated in a rotating and block way, except for the guards and services, with 100 percent of the staff.
