The Lanzarote 1 team of the fire department won the title of Best Extrication Team in Spain and the second prize for Fastest Maneuver in the II Spanish Traffic Accident Rescue Championship, held from May 7 to 10 in La Villa de Teguise. In the competition, in which a total of 12 fire department delegations from different Spanish provinces participated, the two teams from the island that entered the tournament tied in the category of Best Technical Team.

Lanzarote demonstrated the best level in the tests that the troops carried out during this weekend in the Plaza de La Mareta. In it, victim extrication tests were carried out in vehicles, speed and coordination were measured in an action, as well as safety when safeguarding the integrity of the supposedly injured person. After the tests, the teams received recognition and awards at the closing ceremony of the championship, held at the Farmer's Monument.

"It is a pride for the island that our firefighters are once again positioned as the best extrication team in Spain and a pride for Teguise to have hosted this new test that demonstrates the level of the Fire Department," said the mayor of the municipality, Oswaldo Betancort.

The mayor of Teguise expressed his gratitude to the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Security and Emergency Consortium, as well as to the Traffic and Emergency Rescue Association (ARTE) for organizing this test in La Villa de Teguise. Betancort also congratulated all the participating teams from various parts of the Peninsula and the Canary Islands, "in a competition in which they have more than demonstrated the professionalism and discipline with which they develop this service to citizens with such a high degree of vocation and maximum dedication".
