The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has established a yellow heat warning for this Monday in Lanzarote. The forecast is that the island could reach temperatures of up to 34 degrees.

Aemet had already forecast a sharp increase in temperatures from the beginning of next week, which seems to be coming true. Thus, the island will be on yellow alert for maximum temperatures between 11:00 AM on July 6 and 8:00 PM on the same day.

Specifically, temperatures of up to 34 degrees are expected, which will affect inland areas of the southeast of the island more. Meanwhile, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria are also on yellow heat alert, during the same time frame.

The forecast is that temperatures will increase progressively throughout the week, especially from Tuesday onwards.

Added to this warning is that the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert for high temperatures in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as in the rest of the archipelago from 8:00 AM on Sunday, July 5.

This episode of high temperatures is associated with a warm air mass of African origin, which will initially affect Gran Canaria, also extending to inland areas of Fuerteventura during Sunday and to Lanzarote, with special impact between Tuesday and Thursday.
