The DJ from Lanzarote, Ángel Pérez, has won the Wedding Awards 2023 in the Music category organized by Bodas.net. This is the fourth time that Pérez has received this award, which gives him the recognition of one of the best wedding professionals in Spain.
The voting for the contest to select the professionals in each category was carried out by the couples who got married during 2022. “Last year I was at 37 weddings, which is approximately an average of 2 events per weekend”, says the DJ, who has a total of 130 opinions within his digital showcase that can be found on the Bodas.net website and a score of 4.9 out of 5.0.
“Being accredited with this award really positions you well in the sector. And that is important because in the end when a couple decides to get married and looks for a DJ, they look at how well recognized they are and at the opinions of previous clients”, explains Pérez.
One of the difficulties of being a DJ on an island is that the client portfolio can be reduced due to the cost of travel. “Some couples are not willing to invest certain amounts in music, although it is one of the most important aspects of the wedding. We are talking about the fact that the expenses derived from transportation to Gran Canaria from Lanzarote can amount to 500 euros”, says the winner of the Wedding Award 2023.
Planning prior to the wedding
Pérez, who is currently 29 years old, became a professional DJ eight years ago. “I have played at weddings of 500 people, but also at those where there were 20. And you have to put the same enthusiasm into it. In the end, your job is to ensure that both the bride and groom and the guests have a good time and have good memories of the event”, says the young DJ.
For a wedding to turn out as the bride and groom have dreamed of, prior planning work is required. “Before the event we have to meet with the bride and groom, get to know their musical tastes and see the space in which we will be placed during the wedding. Because we don't just put a table and that's it, we put a booth with different decorations that we select based on the client's taste. Now it is very fashionable to have rustic weddings, with a lot of wood, so one of the decorations that we usually put is a classic van”, details Pérez.
The winner of the Wedding Award 2023 for the fourth consecutive year points out that “being serious” is one of the keys to becoming a professional in the sector. “I have sometimes found that the DJ has left the bride and groom stranded at the last minute”, he explains. “But above all, it is essential to enjoy the work and constantly read the audience to play each song at the perfect moment”, concludes Pérez.
