As is customary every May 4th for the past 13 years, the workers of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT) of the Cabildo of Lanzarote remembered the memory of Jesús Soto this Wednesday. It was in the capital's cemetery of San Román where they once again 'met' with the former artistic master of the Corporation, named Adopted Son of Lanzarote in 2002 and who died one year later, on May 4th.
The event was attended by three of the daughters of this majorero by birth and lanzaroteño by adoption, who placed a bouquet of flowers in the niche where the architect of the interior conditioning of the Cueva de los Verdes rests, among other outstanding performances in the CACT. The same was done by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, together with one of the workers of the Centers.
A room dedicated to Soto in the House of Volcanoes
Pedro San Ginés stressed that Jesús Soto developed his work "without any desire for protagonism on the part of this humble artist, despite the fact that he had it, and enormous, which earned him the well-deserved title of Adopted Son of this island", stressed Pedro San Ginés. However, "there was still some pending issue with him", the president nuanced, to announce "the inauguration this year of a room in the House of Volcanoes dedicated ex profeso to the life and work of Soto, in recognition of his contribution to the creation of the network of Tourist Centers".
San Ginés described the place chosen to carry out this initiative, "taken hand in hand with his family", as "very appropriate, because volcanism played a crucial role in Soto's life". On the other hand, the president of the Lanzarote Cabildo took the opportunity to wish a speedy recovery to the artist's wife, who could not attend the event because she was convalescing.
One of the most emotional moments of this event occurred with the reading by one of the CACT workers of a text dedicated to the memory of Jesús Soto Morales, prepared by the former scientific director of the House of Volcanoes, Vicente Araña.
The tribute was also attended by the first vice president and the Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo, José Juan Cruz and Echedey Eugenio, respectively, as well as the CEO of the CACT, José Juan Lorenzo, and the former director of the Tourist Centers, Marcial Martín, as well as Luis Morales, another of the architects in the direction of the CACT work.
