The General Directorate for Children of the Government of the Canary Islands is considering closing the center for minors in Mácher, managed by the entity Fepas, due to a lack of children and adolescents. This was reported this Friday morning by the manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, and confirmed by the Minister of Social Welfare of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Marciano Acuña, to La Voz.
The Consortium has assured that the General Directorate of Childhood of the Canarian Executive is considering closing this space next April 10. Currently, the center houses thirteen minors who will be transferred to two spaces: one in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and another in Argana (Arrecife).
According to sources from the Department of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands informed to La Voz, several centers in the archipelago have already closed due to the transfers of minors who have been referred to other autonomous communities, after the migratory contingency was declared in the Canary Islands and due to the fulfillment of the Supreme Court's mandate, as well as because other minors have reached the age of majority.
In Lanzarote, there are two centers funded by the Cabildo de Lanzarote to guarantee the integration of former foster youth who reach adulthood on the island, one managed by the entity Más Oportunidades and another by Tribarte.
