The census of Lanzarote residents abroad has doubled in the last decade, according to a statistic published by the Data Center of the Cabildo.
According to the same, which collects data from the electoral census of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in December 2010 there were 1,595 Lanzarote residents living abroad, while as of January 1, 2021, there were 3,240, which represents a growth of 103.1%
In the last year, the growth has been 6.19%, since in January 2020 there were 3,051 Lanzarote voters residing outside of Spain.
Gradual increase since 2006
The electoral census of Lanzarote residents abroad has been gradually increasing since 2006, which is the first year for which the Cabildo Data Center provides data. At the end of that year, this census was made up of 1,093 people, increasing in 2007 to 1,203, in 2008 to 1,305 and in 2009 to 1,439.
In 2010, as mentioned above, there were 1,595 Lanzarote residents with the right to vote who lived outside of Spain, while a year later there were already 1,781. This figure increased in 2012 to 1,915 and continued to increase in 2013, reaching 2,143 people. In 2014 there were 2,380 Lanzarote residents abroad registered in the electoral census, while in 2015 there were 2,627, in 2016 a total of 2,772, in 2017 there were 2,960, in 2018 there were 3,013 and in 2019 a total of 3,113.
As of December 1, 2020, the electoral census of Lanzarote residents abroad was made up of 3,270 people, 30 more than those registered a month later. Currently, of the 3,240 Lanzarote residents that make up this census, 1,281 are registered in Arrecife, 359 in Haría, 314 in San Bartolomé, 397 in Teguise, 409 in Tías, 216 in Tinajo and 264 in Yaiza.
