While Covid-19 infections are decreasing in practically all the communities of Spain, the Canary Islands is going the opposite way, weighed down by the data from Tenerife. This Monday, the accumulated incidence at 7 days in the archipelago has reached 50.23 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is the fourth highest figure in the country, only behind Andalusia, La Rioja and Cantabria.
In addition, it is already eight points above the average for Spain, which stands at 42.13. Meanwhile, the best data in the country is in the other archipelago, the Balearic Islands, where the incidence at 7 days is this Monday at 19.80 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
As for the 14-day incidence, in Spain the average is 92.46, while in the Canary Islands it reaches 94.40. In this case, there are four communities that are above, since the rise in the Canary Islands has been especially noticeable in the last week.
However, this increase is concentrated in Tenerife, which has already entered high risk in both the 7 and 14 day incidence. In the first indicator it is at 88.84 -more than double the national average- and in the second at 154.75.
Far from these figures, Lanzarote is in second place, with an incidence of 32.09 at 7 days and 73.17 at 14 days, followed closely by Fuerteventura, which has 30.9 and 68.49, respectively. Both islands are at medium risk in both indicators.
Next is Gran Canaria, which is at low risk, with an incidence of 20.34 at 7 days and 47.11 at 14 days. For its part, La Gomera has improved its data compared to the previous week, and has an incidence at 7 days of 18.45 (low risk), while at 14 days it remains at 50.74 (medium risk). As for La Palma and El Hierro, they continue practically without cases and both are at minimal risk.
It should be remembered that the objective set by the Canary Islands is to be below 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days, which is the limit set by countries such as the United Kingdom to allow travel without restrictions. However, the archipelago currently reaches that limit in just seven days, and almost doubles it in 14.
