The death of the mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, has shocked the island, a month after he himself made public that he suffered from ALS. In addition to the condolences from institutions, which have decreed days of mourning and minutes of silence, and from the main political parties, others from different associations and organizations are also joining.
One of them has been the San Bartolomé Music Band “Acume”, which has published a statement to express "its deepest condolences for the great loss that the death of our mayor Alexis Tejera Lemes represents for the municipality of San Bartolomé."
"Today a great person unfairly leaves us, but he has left us an example of work and dedication to his people, an example of strength and commitment that leaves an indelible mark. We accompany his family, friends, colleagues and all the people of San Bartolomé in their grief. Rest in peace," they say in their note.
In addition, the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote also wanted to express its condolences. "Don Alexis Tejera will be remembered for his work at the head of the San Bartolomé City Council, a municipality that saw him born and to which he has dedicated his political career, but also for his courage and ability to overcome challenges," they say.
On behalf of the sector, the Council has also conveyed its deepest condolences to all his loved ones. "There is no doubt that this is a hard blow for the residents of San Bartolomé and Lanzarote as a whole," they point out.
