Techy Acosta collected the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands for Radio Lanzarote this Monday, May 30, at the institutional event of Canary Islands Day, at the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, was in charge of presenting the awards, which included eight Gold Medals and three Canary Islands Awards, pointing out that “these people and entities are an example for a prosperous people who fight and move forward.”
Likewise, Torres highlighted "remarkable and happy" differences with respect to last year's ceremony, since in this edition "the Guimerá Theater is full and we are not separated by the mask, which in the last edition coexisted with us. We are touching the longed-for normality and that means that, without forgetting the hard moments lived, today reality is seen in another color.”
This recognition of Radio Lanzarote coincides with its 50th anniversary, a time in which “it has marked an era and in turn has acted as a public service, forming part of the life and culture of the people of Lanzarote”, they point out from the Government of the Canary Islands, adding that “it has always stood out on the island for its social function and for its contribution to making Lanzarote a better space, mainly for becoming a loudspeaker for citizen demands.”
The Gold Medal of the Canary Islands was created by Decree 76/1986, of May 9, and is granted to people, corporations and institutions that, inside or outside the Canary Islands, have become deserving of this recognition from the Canary Islands people "for their contribution to economic development, culture, education, sports and information on the islands", recalled the President of the Canary Islands.
The institutional event began with a show entitled "Sangre de tea", created and directed by Mario Vega, a representation that paid tribute to the roots of the Canaries and tried to value the signs of identity of the islanders, symbolizing the strength and resistance of the Canary pine, through a scenography elaborated by Luigi Stinga.
Along with Radio Lanzarote, Radio Televisión Canaria (RTVC), Club Deportivo Tenerife, UNED, Rosa Aguilar (rector of the ULL), Cooperativa Agrícola del Norte de Gran Canaria, Miguel Velázquez Torres, Club Maxorata Lucha Canaria were recognized. Likewise, Torres also presented the awards for the three Canary Islands Awards: Elsa López (literature), Carla Suárez (sports) and Manuel Lorenzo (popular culture).
The gala ended with the interpretation of the Canary Islands anthem by Belén Álvarez, Julio Tejera, Candelaria González, Víctor Batista, Carmen Hernández, Marta Viera, Andrea Zoghbi and the vocal group Reyes Bartlet, putting the final finishing touch.
Multiple representatives of the political, economic and social life of the archipelago also made an appearance, such as the general secretary of the Presidency, Cándida Hernández, the president of the Jury of Popular Culture, Elena Acosta, the vice president of the Government, Román Rodríguez and the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Gustavo Matos.
