The singer and producer from Lanzarote, Talulah Ruby Atkinson Buchanan, originally from the town of Tao in Lanzarote, has conquered London with her musical projects. The sound and music engineer has been living and working professionally for ten years in the British city.

Several concerts, an album, her own compositions... are some of the projects that the 26-year-old is working on. The album she has been preparing for some time is her main bet for these months. "I have just finished an album with three songs, which can be enjoyed soon," she revealed to La Voz. She lives for and by music in her day to day life.

Singer, but also producer. The musical collective that produces it is made up of 50 musicians who are known throughout the city. As she reveals to the newspaper, they have already started doing "festivals and small tours around Europe", although they want to continue expanding their presence in the London art world. "We are going to give a concert in Candem Town," she said.

The most exciting thing about her work is being able to play with her own ideas and shape them. "What I like the most is working with music equipment and frequencies, doing live and studio mixes," she explained. Her musical tastes are later reflected in each of her releases. "I'm a fan of Jazz, electronic music, old tables, analog and acoustic sounds of nature," she confessed. She chose to study and develop her career in London because it is "the most musically interesting city," she acknowledged.

Lanzarote, her source of artistic inspiration

The artist from Lanzarote carries the flag of the Canary Islands in each of her projects. Her concerts include different details that position Lanzarote within her professional career. Her musical shows, in which she is also the protagonist with her compositions, use symbolic images of the island to set the scene with its essence and origins. "During my concerts I put audio recordings of César Manrique in the background and also in live concerts I use recordings of the atmosphere of the island," the singer highlighted.

In the next concert that she has prepared in London for June 13, Talulah will use a video about a currently retired woman who was the owner of a textile business Confecciones Saavedra, Juana Saveedra, in Lanzarote. "I try to make my shows attract attention through visual employment, with images captured from the island," she stressed. Some snapshots that will accompany the musical", she highlighted.

In her public appearances, the young woman has begun to introduce other details of the nature of the volcanic island. "I work with the sound of the birds of Tao and the skin of the Canary fruit to make drum sounds", she added.

In addition, it is not the only allusion that Talulah makes to Lanzarote in her artistic creations. The text of the logo that they have designed for the musical collective is totally based on the essence of the island. A design composed of white letters, simulating the white houses of the island and black letters, inspired by the lava of the volcanoes, she detailed. "To make it look like you are seeing the fluidity of the lava from the volcano," she revealed.

For some time she has been trying to introduce personal aspects lived on the island in her musical appearances. "I use my stories in Lanzarote to make reference in my songs," she specified.

"I work with the sound of the birds of Tao and the skin of the Canary fruit to make drum sounds"

Regarding her artistic future in Lanzarote, she has highlighted that she wants to expand her musical experience on the island and contribute everything she has learned in England to bring it closer to the Canary Islands. "I would like to make an artistic bridge between London and Lanzarote," she added. She would love to collaborate with more artists from the Canary Islands, although this is something she has already started doing. To continue shaping the identity of the island, "she is preparing concerts in Lanzarote, writing and recording on the island. Forming my own scene," she said.

She remembers when she offered a concert in El Almacén in 2023, and focuses her professional ambition on the island through a concert in Los Jameos del Agua. "My dream is to be able to play in the Auditorium of Los Jameos del Agua, also in the Cueva de los Verdes, in the Convento de Teguise, among other locations."

Canary Islands, the boom of young artists

The sound and music engineer has brought the current reality of the artistic world that comes from the Canary Islands closer. "In the Canary Islands there is a boom of young artists," she pointed out. In her opinion, the Archipelago is increasingly hosting more artists who offer their art to the world. Those who, like her, leave the Islands to train abroad and return once their artistic identity has been built. "There has been an enormous growth of Canarian artists who train abroad and return to the island to express their art," she stressed.

From different spheres of the artistic world they have been aware of the great talent that exists in the Canary Islands. "They have realized that the Canary Islands are a special place and the artistic culture is being celebrated higher and higher," she added. Specifically on her island of origin, Lanzarote, she recognizes that artistic influence has always been present in the society of Lanzarote. "Here we have an energy for art that belongs to the people, we carry it in the land and in the blood," she pointed out.

"I transfer my life in Lanzarote 100% to give a context to why I am living in London"

The influence of being Canarian is palpable when she is in London. In her day to day life she continues to take the pride of being from Lanzarote everywhere. "When I am in London, they see me and think that I am from England because of my physical features, but I was born and raised in Lanzatore," she made clear. She always ends up making it clear that her "way of being is very Canarian, and that she is always proud to say that she is", she revealed.

"I transfer my life in Lanzarote 100% to give a context to why I am living in London", she specified. What her life abroad means and has led her to has a lot to do with her past in the Canary Islands.
