On Saturday afternoon, the residents of Tahíche went on a pilgrimage to honor Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana, touring some of the streets of the town. It was headed by the members of the Guagime folk group who very enthusiastically sang and danced the most traditional dances of Canarian folklore, to which the voices of the pilgrims also joined.
This year the pilgrimage had a wide participation of carts decorated with palm trees and pulled by donkeys. A real attraction for the little pilgrims who were afraid to approach them but very attentive to their movements and some brave ones dared to climb on their backs. Between cart and cart, the improvised parrandas were mixed by groups of friends who with great joy and ease sang popular songs of Canarian roots.
When the pilgrims approached the small hermitage, the image of the Patron Saint Santiago Apóstol awaited them next to the image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen to receive the offerings of non-perishable products that the pilgrims were depositing at the foot of the images as they passed. Afterwards they would be delivered to Cáritas Parroquiales de Teguise for distribution to the neediest families. After the offering, the pilgrims moved to the sports court of the Santiago Apóstol Socio-Cultural Center to enjoy the Baile del Romero which lasted until well past midnight.
