With great enthusiasm, the residents of Tahíche took to the streets last Saturday afternoon in a pilgrimage through the town. Their carts adorned with palm trees were interspersed with musical groups and folk groups, which throughout the journey performed popular and traditional songs of Canarian folklore. Meanwhile, the residents shared and invited everyone they encountered along the way with typical products of these popular events such as kneaded gofio, small fish, boiled eggs, cheese, roscas (doughnuts) and wine, which were also joined by homemade desserts such as sponge cakes, torrijas (French toast), mantecados (shortbread) and mimos.
When the pilgrims arrived at the hermitage, the Patron Saint, Santiago Apóstol, was waiting for them, and one by one the families passed by with their carts, and together with the other residents, they deposited their offerings, non-perishable products that would later be distributed by the Parish Caritas of Teguise among the families most in need.
After the pilgrimage, all the residents moved to the socio-cultural center to participate in the lively Baile del Romero (Pilgrim's Dance) enlivened by the Municipal Folklore School of Tahíche, the Bediesta Folk Group of La Palma and the musical groups of Teseguite and Son del Norte, extending the party until well into the night.
