The high-impact storm Therese has left striking images on the coast of Lanzarote, especially in the town of Playa Quemada, where the sea came to penetrate several homes due to the rise of the tide and the force of the waves.
As reported by the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, the effects of the storm became especially visible during high tide, when the combination of strong waves and the sea level caused localized flooding on the seafront. The images released show how the water surpassed promenades and usual transit areas, even reaching the interior of some houses.
The high-impact storm, the nineteenth named in the season, has left several yellow warnings on the island of Lanzarote since last Wednesday due to rough seas. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) had already warned of the arrival of waves between four and five meters, which could occasionally double their size.

This phenomenon coincided with periods of high tide, where the height of the tides, combined with the strong swell, also forced the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands to declare a pre-alert for coastal floods.
Until 6:00 p.m. this Friday, Lanzarote remains under yellow alert for swell, while authorities recommend extreme caution in coastal areas and avoiding approaching points exposed to the sea during the next stages of the storm.
