Rita Martín will now preside over the Rotary Club Lanzarote, along with its new board of directors.

Rotary Club Lanzarote will award this Friday the "Conejero of the Year" award to the healthcare personnel of Lanzarote, in recognition of the "great work carried out to face the pandemic by Covid-19".

The award ceremony, a sculptural work created by Francisco Curbelo from Lanzarote, will take place at the Molina Orosa Hospital at 11.15 am. It will be attended, among other authorities, by the Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo.

During this event, which will take place next to the entrances to the hospital, the president of the Rotary Club Lanzarote, Rita Martín Pérez, will speak. At that moment, the sculpture "Conejero of the Year", in reduced size, will be unveiled in the interior gardens of the General Hospital of Lanzarote, which the Rotarians of Lanzarote donated to the island and is currently located in the roundabout next to the Reducto beach.

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, the mayoress of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, the director of the Health Area of Lanzarote, Noelia Umpiérrez, and the manager of Health Services of Lanzarote, José Luis Aparicio Sánchez, are also expected to attend the ceremony.

In past editions, this highest distinction of the Rotarians of Lanzarote has been awarded to Sister Ana, founder of the NGO Calor y Café, with 20 years of experience in Lanzarote; to the School of Fisheries, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of its creation in Arrecife; to the Cabrera Medina Group, awarded in 2016, to César Manrique (posthumously), and to the Díaz Rijo Brothers, creators of the first seawater desalination plant.

In addition, the artist Jesús Soto; the ceramist Juan Brito; the hotel executive José Figuereo Vivancos; the businessmen Juan Rosa Perdomo and José Calero; the psychiatrist Julio Santiago Obeso; and the Societies La Democracia and El Torrelavega, as well as Kenneth Gasque, the creator of the Ironman Lanzarote, the artist Santiago Alemán and the Palliative Care Unit of the Molina Orosa Hospital, also have this distinction.
