The Arrecife City Council has sued the Water Consortium and Canal Gestión, the company responsible for its sewage network, to resolve the anomalies that are causing new spills, with the appearance of sewage, in the area of the Submarine Outfall in Punta del Camello.

Local Police officers from Arrecife are at the scene and have filed a report regarding a presumed infraction by those responsible for the maintenance of this wastewater network. The City Council, through the Local Police, has notified the Consortium and Canal Gestión Lanzarote of this new incident, which is becoming frequent in this coastal area of Arrecife.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has repeatedly demanded that the Water Consortium and Canal Gestión carry out the necessary works to guarantee that new spills do not occur again on the city's coastline. As is known, the Government of the Canary Islands recently released its report on the Territorial Information System of the Canary Islands, in which Arrecife concentrates several stations, under the ownership of the Consortium and Canal Gestión, that must be adapted to prevent these spills.

Preventive Closure of El Reducto Beach

In light of the confirmation of these new and alleged spills, the Department of Beaches and Environment, led by councilwoman Davinia Déniz, has adopted the preventative measure of closing El Reducto beach and advises against swimming in this cove of the capital of Lanzarote. The Department of Beaches is awaiting the results of the analyses carried out by technicians from the Lanzarote Health Area.
