The General Directorate of Emergencies has declared this Monday the pre-alert for haze throughout the Canary Islands. This pre-notice arrives in Lanzarote from 12:00 hours, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
This episode of haze will mainly affect the southern slopes of the islands, starting with the eastern islands and moving to the rest. Variable concentrations are expected (daily average PM10 100-150 µg/m 3) that could generate health problems for people with chronic or respiratory diseases. In addition, visibility could be reduced to 4,000 and 5,000 meters.
Once the pre-alert has been declared, it is recommended to pay special attention to the most vulnerable people or those with respiratory problems, the Government of the Canary Islands has highlighted as a precautionary measure.
With the declaration of pre-alert, a new meteorological episode arrives after the heavy rains that took place on December 1 on the island. A great downpour that mainly affected the capital of Lanzarote.
