Mozaga resident Socorro Espino Fernández turns 100 years old this Saturday, May 6. The woman was born in the part of Mozaga that belongs to Teguise and owned a store on the road from Teguise to Tinajo. "That store was like a Corte Inglés and a Mercadona together, it sold clothes, dishes and food," recalls her son Ramón Milano.

Once she got married, Socorro Espino moved to the part of Mozaga that belongs to San Bartolomé. There she had eight children with Domingo Martín, who died when she was 43 years old. Ramón, one of her sons, honors her as "a brave mother ahead of her time." Since her husband's death, Socorro Espino raised her children, ran her two businesses and innovated with the products she sold. "A tireless worker, she gave a career to her four young children," reports Ramón Milano.

The country woman fed chickens, had goats and land. She also brought gasoline, created the first radio and the first television in the town, according to her son.
