The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León Machín, has conveyed his condolences for the passing of María Pabón Quijano, one of Arrecife's centenarian grandmothers and a resident of the Valterra neighborhood.
Yonathan de León learned of the sad passing of this 103-year-old resident through a message from doña María Pabón's family. The mayor had met this centenarian grandmother in person when her family invited him to share in her 103rd birthday celebration in the autumn of last year. She was one of the longest-living grandmothers in our city.
Her relatives informed the mayor of the sad passing of this centenarian grandmother, which occurred on Friday morning. Her wake will be held this Saturday, the 29th, at 10 AM, at Enalta (Altavista). The funeral will be on Sunday at the Arrecife cemetery.
Her family, originally from Venezuela, has resided in Arrecife for almost two decades, and last year they invited the mayor to meet her in person and accompany them during her special birthday. Doña María was born 103 years ago in Colombia (she would have turned 104 in the coming months) and moved to Venezuela at a very young age, where she founded her family.
Her descendants wanted her to spend her final years in Arrecife, offering her love and close companionship. The funeral will be held on Sunday so that many of her descendants, who live elsewhere, can travel to Lanzarote.
The mayor of Arrecife conveys his condolences, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, and in his own name, as well as his heartfelt sympathy to all her family. Yonathan de León shared today on his social media "the heartfelt loss, and with more pain as she was one of our centenarian residents. We mourn her loss in the city of Arrecife, where she moved to live with her family, to whom she gave so much and strived for them to get ahead," highlighted the mayor of the capital of Lanzarote.
