"Equal in obligations, but not in rights." With that message of denunciation, the Lanzarote Bar Association, the island's Chamber of Commerce, and the Professional Associations of Social Graduates and Economists have joined together to demand an Administrative Litigation Court on the island, which would avoid the travel that still has to be made to Gran Canaria for this type of trial.
"The lack of this jurisdiction has been causing for many years that its citizens have to face the extra costs of traveling outside the island, to which, in addition to their own expenses, must be added those of professionals, witnesses, experts, etc.," question from the College, which emphasizes that this causes that "on many occasions, the interested party desists from initiating the defense of their legitimate claims, with what this implies of unequal treatment before the Justice, in this case, due to the place of residence."
"Lanzarote, due to its population level, business and economic activity, has every right to have this jurisdiction in its judicial district. Awareness must be taken that the Canary Islands are a geographical space made up of islands and this, which makes it a privileged place, cannot be what harms the right of its population to obtain access to Justice in equal conditions," warn the legal professionals.
In addition, they emphasize that this claim is already "historical", although now they have decided to set an agenda to achieve this objective. For the moment, they have already drawn up a roadmap, after holding a meeting last Monday at the chamber's headquarters. As they explain, the Chamber of Commerce and the three Professional Associations have set a "contact agenda so that this historical demand is, as soon as possible, simply history."
