The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) compiles daily climatological data from each island and publishes a monthly progress report on the situation in the archipelago. Last December, the Canary Islands recorded the eighth warmest last month since records began in 1961.

The average temperature in December was 16.8 degrees, with a positive anomaly of 0.9 degrees, being very warm. In contrast, the last month of 2024 was pluviometrically dry, where half of the expected rainfall for the time of year was recorded.

The rise in temperatures was noticeable in both the minimum and maximum temperatures. For example, in the province of Las Palmas there was a mismatch of one degree, positioning itself as the fourth warmest record in 63 years.

By islands, the heliport station in La Graciosa recorded a maximum of 30 degrees. Meanwhile, the lowest maximum temperature in the archipelago was in Lanzarote, at the Haría cemetery station, with 27.7 degrees.

As for the highest minimum temperatures, in December they were recorded in Lanzarote, at the Playa Blanca station, with 21.6 degrees, and at the La Graciosa Heliport, with 21.2.

Also, in the second half of the month the islands suffered a strong episode of haze that lasted from the 13th until the end of the year 2024.
