Lanzarote has moved to alert level 2, following the latest update made this Thursday by the Government of the Canary Islands. This means that restrictions will increase on the island from the night of next Sunday and for at least the next two weeks, until the incidence of Covid is reduced again, which has skyrocketed in recent days.

The announcement was made by the president of the regional Executive, Ángel Víctor Torres, after the meeting of the Governing Council in which the evolution of the pandemic in the archipelago was addressed as the only point.

In addition to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria has moved to alert level 2 and La Gomera also remains there, while Tenerife remains at alert level 3.

Along with the common measures in force on all the islands, entering level 2 implies that meetings of more than four people are prohibited in both public and private spaces, unless they are cohabitants. In addition, there will be a curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day, and circulation is prohibited during that time except for justified reasons.

Regarding activity in restaurants, bars and cafeterias, the number of diners per table is reduced to 4 people. On terraces or other outdoor spaces dependent on the establishment, activities that encourage not maintaining interpersonal safety distance or not wearing masks, such as dances and karaoke, are prohibited. In addition, they must close before 11 p.m., coinciding with the start of the curfew.

For collective activities in which it is not possible to maintain a safety distance of 2 meters permanently, a maximum number of 6 and 4 people per group is allowed, respectively, including the monitor.

In addition, team sports or those practices or exercises in which it cannot be guaranteed that said distance is maintained at all times may not be practiced. For collective activities in which it is not possible to maintain a safety distance of 2 meters permanently, a maximum number of 6 and 4 people per group is allowed, including the monitor.

Regarding hospitals and social health care centers, visits will be limited, which must be supervised by center staff, and established prevention measures will be stepped up. In addition, the use of FFP2 masks and facial protective screens by staff who have direct contact with patients in these centers is recommended, as well as reinforcing ventilation.

Regarding public transport, its capacity is reduced to 50%. In addition, surveillance of urban land transport will be reinforced during peak hours to avoid crowds. During peak hours, the use of public transport for non-essential or postponable trips should be avoided. It is recommended to increase the frequency of public transport schedules, guaranteeing adequate ventilation and compliance with prevention measures, which include not eating or drinking and making correct use of the mask.
