Lanzarote celebrated this Sunday in style, together with its patron saint San Marcial de Rubicón, the 615th anniversary of the constitution of the First Bishopric of Rubicón and the Diocese of the Canary Islands, with a mass and a procession that toured the surroundings of the church of the town of Femés.

At 6:00 p.m. the Holy Mass of Thanksgiving began, presided over by the vicar Hipólito Cabrera, who was assisted by the parish priests of Yaiza and Tinajo, Juan Antonio Gallego and Juan Antonio Artiles. This year, coinciding with the festivity on Sunday, the small church could not accommodate all the parishioners who came to Femés to participate in the celebration, with a large number remaining outside the portico. For such a special day, the songs of the celebration were interpreted by the Vocal Group of Yaiza, directed by Professor Nuvi Tavio

Once the celebration of the Holy Mass was over and with the ringing of the bells being heard, the procession with the image of San Marcial de Rubicón proceeded, which, upon its departure, was received by applause, cheers, firecrackers and rockets. The Agaete Music Band led the procession, followed by the image of the saint and the celebrating priests, civil and military authorities, intermingled with the parishioners, who accompanied San Marcial on his tour around the church.

Already next to the portico of the temple, the image of San Marcial received the offering made by the members of the Rubicón Folk Group of Yaiza, directed in the musical part by Professor Roberto Gil and in the dance corps by Professor Magdalena, who performed folias, isas and malagueñas, which were greatly applauded by the numerous public gathered there.

Again the cheers and applause and the ringing of the bells were heard while the image of San Marcial crossed the portico of the church, thus ending a day marked by the history of the patron saint San Marcial del Rubicón, who arrived from the French city of Limoges to stay in Lanzarote.
