The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, paid a visit this Monday morning to the Zonzamas Environmental Classroom, together with the Minister of Waste, Andrés Stinga, and representatives of the Martínez Hermanos Foundation, to supervise the donation made by the different educational centers of Lanzarote in the 'Solidarity Sneakers' project. Next week this footwear will be received by the children of Equatorial Guinea.
"I am proud to be at an event like this where the solidarity of the people of Lanzarote is once again proven. Every family that has donated sneakers has done so, this year, in a complicated situation due to the pandemic, which is why we must double our gratitude," said the president.
This solidarity recycling campaign was launched in 2014 "and has gone from 400 pairs of sneakers to today's figure of 1,767," said the area's councilor, Andrés Stinga.

The initiative is carried out together with the Martínez Hermanos Foundation, with 51 educational centers collaborating this year. In this way, young Guineans will be able to practice sports and wear adequate footwear thanks to the solidarity of the island. A campaign for social inclusion and the development of healthy habits in a safe environment.
They will be distributed in schools, orphanages and sports institutions
The director of the Martínez Hermanos Foundation, Caty Martínez, thanked the Cabildo of Lanzarote for its "predisposition" and especially the president and "the ease with which these sneakers reach the most needy families quickly and in good condition." "It is very important for them to have this footwear that is optimized by passing from one generation to another," she said.
The president of the Cabildo also conveyed her "gratitude to the Lanzarote Recicla team for the work carried out and the success of the call despite the pandemic, as well as to the volunteers of the Zonzamas Therapeutic Community, who have washed, classified, repaired and packaged the sneakers."
The sports shoes are distributed by the Martínez Hermanos Foundation to the participants in the Equatorial Guinea Campus. According to the Foundation, due to the current situation of Covid-19, the sports camps planned for the summer will not take place, so the shoes will be distributed in schools, four orphanages, sports institutions, etc. at high risk of social exclusion in Equatorial Guinea.
