Lanzarote closed July with highs of 37 degrees, in one of the hottest summers in 65 years

Lanzarote closed July with temperatures of almost 37 degrees, within one of the hottest summers in the last 65 years, according to the climatological advance prepared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Specifically, the station located in the Haría cemetery was the one that registered the highest temperature in Lanzarote with 36.8 degrees recorded on July 7. This is the fifth highest temperature recorded in the archipelago, with the first place taken by the San Nicolás-Tasarte station, in Gran Canaria, with 40.7 degrees.

This report shows that the Canary Islands registered an average temperature in July of 23.5 degrees, 1.2 degrees above the reference average, making it the seventh warmest July since 1961.

Regarding the highest minimum temperatures in July, Lanzarote registered the highest on the island in Playa Blanca with 23.3 degrees, being the seventh highest on the list. 

As for accumulated rainfall, it practically did not rain in Lanzarote during the month of July. Only 0.2 liters per square meter were recorded between July 1 and 2 in the Los Dolores area, in Tinajo.

For its part, the average rainfall for the Canary Islands was 1.7 mm, which makes July a humid month based on data recorded between 1991 and 2020.
