Rotary Club Lanzarote has a new board of directors and a new president. José Luis Otaduy Castanedo has been appointed as the new president of the Rotarians of Lanzarote for the Rotary year 2023/2024, which begins on July 1st and will conclude on June 30th of next year 2024.
The handover ceremony of the new presidency of Rotary Club Lanzarote took place this past weekend during an event held at the facilities of the El Aljibe del Obispo Restaurant, in the Stratvs Wineries, in La Geria, Yaiza, Lanzarote. This ceremony, known as 'Change of Collars' (the presidency holds in its weekly meetings the symbol of the Rotary wheel where the names of all previous presidents are engraved). The outgoing president Dolores Novás - former president of ADISLAN - took stock of the solidarity and cultural activities carried out during her presidency, between the years 2022 and 2023, and imposed the collar on Otaduy Castanedo.
The new president announced, before the attendees, that he will undertake many philanthropic and cultural programs. Odatuy renews the presidency in Rotary Lanzarote where he already had the opportunity to preside over the club at the end of the last decade, in the preamble to the situation experienced worldwide by the Covid pandemic.
Otaduy is accompanied by the following members of the board of directors for the Rotary year 2023 / 2024, among others Rita Martín (former Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands), Pedro Botella (Arrecife notary currently retired), the industrialist Ventura Acuña, the journalist Severino A. Betancort, the former president of ADISLAN, Mara Novás, Elizabeth García and Otilia Aguilar Topham (former commercial director of Iberia in Lanzarote, currently retired), the social graduate Germán Alpuín, the former president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María José Docal, and the tax advisor Charo Foinquinos.
The president of the Rotary International Foundation for Spain District 2021, the Gran Canaria banking executive Daniel Bazán, was present at the event.
For the next Rotary year 2024/2025, the president-elect of the Rotary Club Lanzarote will be the well-known notary of Lanzarote, currently retired, Pedro Botella.
Among those attending this ceremony were several of the people who have been designated by Rotary Club Lanzarote as Conejeros of the Year, including the doctor in psychiatry Julio Santiago Obeso, and Kenneth Gasque, the promoter of Ironman Lanzarote and Ocean Lava, as well as the Canarian painter Rufina Santana, and the director of the Hermanos Martínez Foundation, Katia Martínez, among other personalities from the cultural, business and philanthropic society of Lanzarote.
In the room, attendees were able to contemplate a small sample of the large collection of orchids owned by the married couple residing in Lanzarote formed by Mauricio Cerpalugo, and Araceli Suárez, which has been featured in different reports in the media of the Canary Islands and the Peninsula. The event featured a performance of classical music by the musicians Iya Zhmaeva, and Diego Bermúdez Zhmaev.
