The Assembly of the Spanish Network of Rural and Artisan Cheese Factories (QueRed) held last Saturday in Madrid approved the appointment of the president of the Association of Artisan Cheesemakers of Lanzarote, José Domínguez Rodríguez, as vice president of the QueRed board of directors, replacing Tito González, also from Lanzarote, who recently passed away.

The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Antonio Morales, who was present at said Assembly, thanked QueRed "both for the heartfelt tribute paid to Tito" during that assembly "and for continuing to place its trust in Lanzarote."

In this sense, Morales considered that "the appointment of another Lanzarote native to continue occupying one of the vice presidencies of QueRed is of utmost importance both for the livestock sector and for the agri-food industry of the island, as it will allow us to continue contributing our points of view on the issues that are addressed and having our own voice in decision-making."

Prior to the celebration of the Assembly, last Friday the 6th, an international conference organized by QueRed took place in which the request addressed by this Association to the competent authorities regarding the development of flexibility criteria in the application of regulations relating to the adoption of hygienic measures was debated; as well as to collaborate with the future member states of the European Union in the implementation of flexibility measures in their regulations that help preserve small cheese factories.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote is a founding member of the Spanish Network of Rural and Artisan Cheese Factories, integrated into the European Network and created in 2013 as a non-profit association of state scope. More than a hundred micro-cheese factories and small dairy facilities are part of QueRed, whose main objective is to improve the hygienic-sanitary standards in these establishments.
