II Jornadas sobre el continente de África del IES Playa Honda

IES Playa Honda hosted this Tuesday morning, coinciding with the Cultural Week of the center, the act of inauguration of the II Conference on the continent of Africa. An open-door event that will take place until the 20th and is part of the project of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands 'Teaching Africa: a positive look', which has the collaboration of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

From the first island institution they wanted to congratulate the students and teachers of IES Playa Honda for the organization of these conferences, open to the entire population, which will allow to know in more depth the wonders of the African continent.

Thus, during the next days, different activities will be held, such as exhibitions of models of the most representative ecosystems of Africa, thematic panels, samples of sculptures, musical instruments, typical products, as well as talks, musical performances, contests and interactive workshops, among others.

Among the objectives of these conferences are "the contribution to the strengthening of the teaching center, promote the interest and study of students towards the African continent for its proximity to the Canary Islands, with a more positive vision, and establish synergies with other schools, citizens and local governments, to achieve results that benefit all", is highlighted from the Cabildo.

Opening ceremony


The opening of the conference took place this Tuesday, June, at 10:00 am, being invited the entire educational community of Lanzarote, local and regional authorities, as well as local media.

The island director of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands was the thread of the opening ceremony, giving way to the performance of the Children's Choir 'Patio' of CEIP Guigüan of Mancha Blanca which, directed by Professor Iria Otero Sebio, sang three songs: 'O lelé', 'So Diyara' and 'Fatou you'

Then Antonio Luis Carrascosa González, coordinating professor of the II Conference on the continent of Africa, takes the floor, followed by the intervention of Yolanda Luis-Ravelo Rodríguez, director of IES Playa Honda. The mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, the acting councilor of the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Rafael Juan González, and the councilor of Education and Universities of the Government of the Canary Islands, Soledad Monzón, also spoke. The councilors of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Fernández and Ana María Lopes, were also present at the event.

The attendees also enjoyed a exhibition on whistled language, by Orlando Hernández, vice president of the Cultural Association Pueblo Maho, Later, the authorities made a visit to the booths of the different Nations of Africa with representation in Lanzarote and the exhibitions on the continent of Africa made by the students of IES Playa Honda.
