The president, María Dolores Corujo, held a meeting this Sunday at 8:00 p.m., after the telematic connection with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the rest of the Cabildos officials, with mayors, representatives of the Security and Emergency Consortium and of AEMET and other authorities in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to take stock of the incidents caused by the storm on Sunday and continue with the coordination and prevention plan for the night and Monday.
In the meeting, María Dolores Corujo, pointed out that “coordination is essential to avoid material damage. Although the tropical storm tends to diminish and become a subtropical storm due to the loss of strength, we cannot lower our guard because there may be storms with electrical equipment.”
More than 200 incidents in Lanzarote
The president confirmed at the meeting that in Lanzarote the liters that had been planned have been exceeded, with more than 50 liters during Sunday in different locations.
Lanzarote suffered more than 200 incidents during this first day of storm, 90% in the capital of the island, Arrecife.
During the meeting, Corujo stressed “the commitment and coordinated work by all administrations and security and emergency forces to avoid personal injury and reduce material damage, fortunately there is no need to regret any incident on the integrity of the people.”
For his part, the Minister of Security and Emergencies, Marcos Bergaz, thanked “the citizen collaboration during this first day, which has greatly helped the attention to the dozens of incidents that we have had to attend as a result of the rains.”
During the day this Sunday various roads flooded by the fallen water have been closed, which are now open to traffic.
La Graciosa
It should be noted that during this atmospheric phenomenon a team of firefighters has permanently moved to the island of La Graciosa due to possible incidents that may occur on the eighth island.
