The association Unión de la Guardia Civil (Unión GC) has reported that the lack of vehicles for the armed institute in Lanzarote prevents agents from patrolling normally on the island.
After covering the demanded increase in personnel in the Lanzarote commands, with agents in training and transfers from the mainland, the corps denounces the lack of vehicles suitable for patrolling the streets and responding to incidents on the island.
For example, the patrols responsible for monitoring the municipalities of Haría and Teguise highlight the lack of partitioned vehicles, that is, cars with a partition separating the rear seats from the front ones, which allows for the safe transport of detained individuals.
Thus, when they encounter a difficult detainee who they must transport to the station, they find themselves in the situation of having to wait for other colleagues to come and lend them a car with this protection. These supports are not always possible, especially at night.
Due to the lack of vehicles, the cars available to the unit are usually in constant motion, sometimes all day long, which leads to them eventually needing technical assistance periods, further reducing the number of vehicles available for patrols.
Unión GC has indicated that the lack of Guardia Civil vehicles in Lanzarote is related to the delay in the approval of the General State Budgets, which prevents the acquisition of more cars.
