XXV Romería de Haría 2019

The residents of the municipality of Haría are immersed in the celebration of the festivities in honor of their patron saint, San Juan Bautista. This Saturday they celebrated the XXV Romería Offering that departed from the vicinity of the cemetery, going through San Juan street, the main road of the town to the town square.

This year the participation was much greater, with the presence of cultural groups and folk groups which with their traditional clothing filled the entire route with color and rhythm until reaching the square where the Holy Patron awaited them and next to him, Norberto Medina, parish priest of the municipality. Medina was in charge of receiving all those pilgrims who approached the image to deposit the offerings destined for Cáritas Parroquiales and then distribute them among the neediest families. Norberto thanked everyone for the generosity for the contribution of all the products they had brought.

The pilgrimage took place with great animation where each of the folk groups, when they arrived at the feet of the Patron Saint, offered him one of the most representative dances of the islands. As in previous years, the Haría City Council awarded 200 euros to the best decorated cart. In addition, among the pilgrims best dressed in typical costumes, the Romera and Romero Mayor were chosen, titles that this year went to Rita Camacho de León and Sergio Tolosa Olivero. The winners received sculptures with Canarian symbols from the hands of the mayor Marciano Acuña and the Councilor for Festivities, Soraya Brito.

Once the Romería Offering was finished, the image of San Juan, amid applause and cheers, returned to the church to begin the romero dance, which began with the musical chords of the Pal Porrón band. The band, with a lot of animation, managed to gradually fill the square with people wanting to party and that lasted until the wee hours of the morning, also joining the Lanzarote Swing trio and the Son del Norte and Los Muchachos bands.
